The 11th Rome Film Fest officially kicks off on Oct. 13 but the festivities are getting started early this year. A pre-festival screening of American Pastoral will take place on Oct. 3 in the center of the Italian capital at the Teatro Barberini.

Director and star Ewan McGregor will be on hand to present the film, along with co-star Jennifer Connelly. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Philip Roth, McGregor’s directorial debut follows Seymour Levov, the Swede, a man who has everything, but whose life slowly falls apart when his teenage daughter commits an act of terrorism.

The film explores the quintessential question of where did the American Dream go so terribly wrong for the Swede? Dakota Fanning also stars.

The film debuted in Toronto and will be released in the U.S. by Lionsgate on Oct. 21.

The Rome Film Fest runs Oct. 13-23. Antonio Monda serves as artistic director in his second year. Other guests include Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep,
